The Transforming Rifle is a Primary weapon introduced in the 22.8.0 update. It can be obtained from the Space Pirates Season Pixel Pass.

Description

The Transforming Rifle is a Space Pirate themed weapon which fires bullets automatically at a high fire rate when the scope is not used, and powerful sniper shots at a low fire rate when the scope is engaged. It has mediocre damage as an automatic but extremely high damage as a sniper, with good capacity, low mobility, and and no special attributes outside of its two firing modes. The weapons is typically a 4-7 shot kill as an automatic and a 1 shot kill as a sniper.

Appearance

The weapon is loosely modeled after the hull of a vessel, with various retro/steampunk designs incorporated to complement the space pirate theming of the weapon. The forward facing portion of the gun is occupied by three large electrified mechanisms which glow when the weapon is viewed in game or in the armory. The scope of the weapon resembles a submarine in the style of Jules Verne, with portholes adorning the sides and a fin protruding from the top. The "engines" which are located above the trigger are decorated a small pirate symbol of a skull with two crossed swords.

The gun is mostly composed of blue, red, and yellow elements. The sides of the gun have lighter blue paneling, while the underbelly, scope, and back sections are navy blue. The stock of the weapon is also indented in such away that it resembles the tail of a fish, completing the look and feel of the gun.

During the idle animation of the gun, the player collapses and expands certain parts of the weapon like the scope, stock, and engines. The smaller side electric coils are fiddled with, and the player seems to inspect them while moving them in and out from the weapon.

Performance

Tapping or holding the fire button causes large yellow projectiles to be fired from the center coil with no no travel time. The gun shakes when fired, with a dramatic recoil animation which features a large muzzle flash for each bullet. Bullets from this mode are regular automatic projectiles, not lasers.

Tapping or holding the fire button with the scope engaged causes a single laser beam with no travel time to be fired from the weapon. The beam has no special attributes, but does extremely good damage, with one of the highest body damages in the game at mythical grade.

This weapon has fixed delay, meaning it will always have a pull-up delay lasting around half a second when switched to from any other weapon.

Strategy

Tips

  • If possible, do not use the automatic mode and instantly scope in for the kill, as the additional damage is not needed in most cases.
  • Landing a few shots before can also be useful though, as it will increase your aim assist strength and make it so the scoped shot is virtually guaranteed to hit.
  • This weapon is very good for scoped kill clan and pixel pass challenges, due to its ability to one shot kill any armor and its extremely high capacity for a sniper-type weapon.
  • Use a different weapon when moving around the map, as this gun has very low mobility.

Counters

  • Move erratically, as staying on the ground will make it much easier to scope in and instantly kill you.
  • Avoid medium to long range encounters with users of this weapon if possible, as it is at its strongest in that range.
  • Try to jump to avoid shots and use an area damage weapon to take out the user.

Recommended Maps

Equipment Setups

Use this weapon along with a mobility option such as the Thermal Ultra Scythe, Additional Biting Limb, or Gift Stealer, as it is not good for traversing the map. Additionally, in very close range this weapon is not well-suited, so equip a high damage heavy such as the Christmas Ultimatum or Proton Freezer.

Gadgets such as the Cyber Bees Swarm and X-Ray Glasses would pair well with this gun in most situations.

Trivia

  • This, along with Fake Pistol, are the only weapons that are dual-action. In this case, it acts as a sniper weapon when using a scope. It is the only Primary weapon with this trait, and the only weapon that has this trait hidden.
  • The cooldown from firing in the scoped mode is not independent from the automatic mode, you will not be able to fire either type of projectile again until the shot cooldown from the sniper shot has expired.
