The Spirit Exorcist is a Backup weapon introduced in the 23.0.0 update. It is one of three weapons in the Lunar New Year Set, and one of two which could only be obtained in the Lunar New Year event upon release, along with the Wealth Distributor.

Description

The Spirit Exorcist is a Lunar New Year themed gun which fires single shots at a decent fire rate. It has good mobility, extremely good attributes, good capacity, and deals excellent damage. This weapon is usually a 2-3 shot kill, but can be a one shot headshot with a critical hit. The combination of critical damage, wall break, and weakening on this gun is one of the best attribute combinations possible in the game.

Appearance

The gun is a revolver-style weapon which features a barrel and trigger in the shape of a fish, likely a koi based on the silver whiskers which appear beneath the eyes. The eyes of the fish appear similar to flathead screws, which rotate backwards and forwards when the gun is fired or reloaded. The cylinder of the gun is an oversized plate which attaches underneath the body of the fish. Despite containing space for 7 rounds, the gun can be fired 12 times before needing to be reloaded.

The Spirit Exorcist is mostly red, yellow/gold, and silver, with additional black and white accents in various locations. The front of the cylinder is decorated by a white pattern on a red background ringed with a gold border. The gun features water falling from the mouth of the fish, just like the Wealth Distributor, another weapon in the same set only obtainable through the Lunar New Year Event.

During the idle animation of holding the gun, the player will detach the cylinder and holster the body of the gun, fiddling with the detached component and spinning it around in their hands.

Performance

Tapping or holding the fire button causes a projectile with instant travel time to be fired from the barrel of the gun. When fired, the gun produces a unique circular red muzzle flash. The cylinder rotates once per shot, and is replaced after the ammo is exhausted. Bullets fired from this gun pierce walls, have a chance to do critical damage, and inflict weakening on an enemy when hit. The cylinder of the gun is entirely replaced during the reload animation, with the old one being tossed to the ground and a new one being inserted.

This weapon has fixed delay, meaning it will always have a pull-up delay lasting around half a second when switched to from any other weapon.

Strategy

Tips

• This weapon has such good damage for its fire rate that it can be used alone very effectively.
• It does have fixed delay, making it not ideal for 3-cat spam, but its delay is fairly short and due to its weakening attribute it can still be a very useful weapon to include in such a loadout.
• This weapon features the wall break attribute, which means that with the X-Ray Glasses it is possible to shoot, and more importantly, apply weakening to enemies through walls. This can be very helpful in maps with many obstacles and can give you the upper hand in gunfights should you hit an enemy through a wall before engaging.
• Headshots are important with this weapon, aim for the head to maximize damage.
• The bullet spread of the Spirit Exorcist increases very slightly when being fired for long durations of time, so be aware of the possible inaccuracy when fighting at longer ranges.
• This weapon can be equipped with the Portalius Set, which removes wall break damage reduction.

Counters

• Try to land the first hit, as the weakening effect can severely disadvantage you in a gunfight.
• A long range weapon such as a good sniper can help in dealing with a player using this weapon, as it has no scope and can be slightly inaccurate.
• Try to jump to avoid shots and use an area damage weapon to take out the user.
• The Veteran's Honor Set allows you to resist an enemy's X-Ray, which can be helpful in countering someone taking advantage of the wall break attribute.
• Avoid running directly at an enemy using the Spirit Exorcist, as if they manage to land 2 consecutive shots you are very likely dead.

Equipment Setups

This weapon is extremely strong and essentially self sufficient if the user wishes to use it casually. It has no delay mechanics to account for as it has fixed delay, and it fits well into virtually any loadout. Ideally, a user would equip this with a non-fixed delay shotgun such as Ultimatum or Viking, a high mobility melee, and a strong sniper and heavy. The special category could be used for mobility in the form of a pulling toward target gun or as another damage dealer like the Necklace of the Ice King or Reflector.

The Barrier gadget also pairs well with the Spirit Exorcist, as the damage reduction combined with the weakening effect is extremely effective. Any throwing gadget would work well with this gun.

Trivia

• This is the first weapon in the game to feature both the wall break and weakening attributes.
• The Spirit Exorcist has a stream of water coming from the mouth of the fish which adorns the weapon, a trait which it shares with the Wealth Distributor but not the third member of the Lunar New Year Set, the Festive Eliminator.
